Recently, some WeChat public accounts are reposting a saying that nano sponges, also called magic wipes, Klin wipes, and wipe Klin cleaning products contain formaldehyde and exceed 50 times the standard. It is recommended that you do not use it. But many people will say again that nano sponges are really easy to use, and heavy dirt can be wiped off in one go. It is used for house cleaning, if it can’t be used, I don’t know what to look for instead! Is it really a "poison", is it as terrible as the legend?

Formaldehyde is everywhere
When it comes to formaldehyde, people usually think of all kinds of board furniture and wood floors that have just been bought after renovation. The formaldehyde released by them will make the air have a choking smell and smell very uncomfortable. High-concentration formaldehyde not only smells uncomfortable, but it may also cause a series of adverse reactions such as eye irritation and headaches. In severe cases, it may even induce diseases such as bronchial asthma and nasopharyngeal tumors. It is precisely because the hazards of high-concentration formaldehyde are so great that it is easy for people to have a misunderstanding, that is, "As long as there is formaldehyde in things, it is dangerous."
Wood floors also contain formaldehyde
In fact, formaldehyde is also present in the air and drinking water in daily life, in the beer and milk that are often drunk, in the vegetables and fruits that are often eaten, and in the clothes worn every day, and it is not limited to plates and furniture. This is the formaldehyde standard of various foods and supplies collected by an expert on the shell:
Formaldehyde content in daily necessities
Most of the data in the table are found in regulatory documents published by authoritative organizations, which means that as long as the formaldehyde content does not exceed the prescribed standard, it is safe for us. In other words, whether formaldehyde is dangerous or not, it mainly depends on the "quantity".
Is the formaldehyde content in the nanosponge exceeding the standard?
Some familiar friends know that the 75mg/kg standard specified in category B in the GB18401-2010 "National Basic Safety Technical Specifications for Textile Products" is for underwear, socks, swimsuits, etc. for a relatively long time (several hours or even longer). The textiles that touch our body should mainly consider the irritation of formaldehyde to the skin, so the set value is relatively low. But most of the time, we only use a few minutes (or even shorter) to wash dishes and wipe these things. It is not suitable to measure things by the same standard as things that we touch for several hours every day.

3 ways that formaldehyde may harm our health:
Formaldehyde harms human health mainly through three ways: direct contact, eating into the body, and breathing contact. Let's take a look at whether the formaldehyde in the magic wipe can affect us through these three ways.
1. Direct contact
Direct skin contact with a certain concentration of formaldehyde may cause symptoms such as irritant dermatitis and allergic dermatitis. We usually use magic wipes to hold them directly in our hands, which does have certain health and safety hazards.
But what you need to know is that one of the characteristics of formaldehyde is that it is easily soluble in water, and the concentration of formaldehyde in aqueous solution can reach up to 55% (the "formalin" that is often heard is 40% formaldehyde water). Nano-sponge magic is used in many cases after immersing the bowl in water, and its sponge-like structure is very loose and easy to absorb water. So even if there is some formaldehyde in the nano sponge magic wipe, there will be very little residue after being dissolved in water in a large amount.

2. Eat into the body
When formaldehyde is eaten into the body, it will cause a direct poisoning reaction. In mild cases, the mucous membranes of the mouth, throat, esophagus, and stomach may be irritated. In severe cases, symptoms such as dizziness, coughing, and vomiting may occur. In the most severe cases, symptoms may occur. Excessive gastrointestinal bleeding, coma or shock, etc. Therefore, some friends are worried that if they use a magic trick containing formaldehyde to scrub cups and plates, if formaldehyde remains on these things, it will be eaten into the body, and it will affect our health.
In fact, don't worry too much about this. As I just said, the formaldehyde is easily soluble in water. Soaking in water will not release much formaldehyde. If you are worried about residues on the plates and cups, you can rinse them with water a few more times. And formaldehyde is also easy to volatilize. According to some data, the volatilization point of formaldehyde is 19°. The higher the temperature, the faster the volatilization of formaldehyde. Even if the scattered formaldehyde remains on the washed dishes, it is directly exposed to the air and will volatilize in a short time in a room that is not too cold. The conclusion in one sentence is that as long as you wash it a few times and ventilate it to dry, you don't have to worry about formaldehyde remaining on the tableware and utensils.

3. Breathing contact
This is what everyone knows the most. I usually say that the house smells so dizzy after the renovation, so I refer to it. When the formaldehyde content in the indoor air is 0.1mg/m?3; we will smell peculiar smell; when it reaches 0.5mg/m?3; it can irritate the eyes and cause tearing; when it reaches 0.6mg/m?3; it will cause Sore throat; no matter how high the concentration is, it can cause symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, coughing, chest tightness, wheezing and even emphysema.
Nano sponge magic wipes are often very close to us when used in normal times. Will it increase the concentration of formaldehyde in the surrounding air and affect our health? In order to answer this doubt, let’s do an experiment: the experiment is very simple, that is, in a room with almost only a table, first test the concentration of formaldehyde in the air of the room itself, and then put the magic nanosponge into the distance test box. Test at about 10cm to see if the concentration of formaldehyde in the air increases.
Instructions for use of formaldehyde test box
The test process and results are as follows:
The room's own formaldehyde concentration is 0.03~0.05/m3
Nano sponge formaldehyde test
Nano sponge formaldehyde test results show
The formaldehyde test of the nanosponge shows that the formaldehyde content is still 0.03~0.05/m3. The nanosponge that has just been disassembled has the highest formaldehyde content, but when we use it, the nanosponge is used after being immersed in water. The content is not so high anymore. From this experiment, we can realize that although the nanosponge contains formaldehyde, it is within the safe range and has no harm to our human health. You can use it with confidence.
The test proves that the formaldehyde in the nanosponge does not exceed the standard
